Words of Welcome
“Him [Jesus] we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom,
that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” Colossians 1:28
After having served at Mt. Olive for more than 20 years, Pastor Sizemore accepted a call to his home church near Daytona Beach, Florida, beginning October 2018. Although we will miss him, we are trusting in the Lord’s guidance for our future.
During this next period in the life of Mt. Olive, we will continue our worship services, ministries, and welcoming our guests. We will also anticipate a future, in God’s timing, in which the person already ordained by God to become our next pastor is identified and called. Our congregation is praying that the Holy Spirit will guide our church leadership’s discernment throughout this process.
Mt. Olive is excited to have as our vacancy, or interim, Pastor Carl Voges, assisted by LCMS military chaplains who are stationed at area bases. These pastors have a unique role as they nurture our congregation during the transition period. The fact that there is an interim means there is an excitement and expectation for the future!
John the Baptist is an excellent biblical model of an interim pastor. Just like John, the interim pastors will help us “prepare the way” for the one who is to follow. John’s ministry had a specific purpose and time frame. He was called upon to “prepare the way” for the one who would follow. He removed the focus from self and prepared the people for the coming of Jesus, gracefully bowing out once Jesus came.
Pastor Voges is here to serve in the spirit of John the Baptist. He will continue to proclaim Christ and Him crucified and to faithfully bring the Word and Sacraments. He will be preaching and teaching the biblical principles that will strengthen the church and sharpen our focus as we prepare for our next pastor. Along with our Lay Minister and Board of Elders, he will be involved in the shepherding and spiritual care of our congregation.
